LEADERSHIP TEAM Heather Sherrard
Director, Champlain Get with the Guidelines – ACS InitiativeVice President Clinical Services University of Ottawa Heart Institute Ms. Heather Sherrard obtained her BScN (Nursing) at the University of Saskatchewan and her Masters in Health Administration (MHA) from the University of Ottawa. Ms. Sherrard has held a variety of clinical and administrative positions in the acute care hospital sector, most of which have been in the area of cardiovascular care. She has been involved with the Heart Institute since 1998 first as a Nursing Coordinator, and then the Director of Nursing. She is currently the Vice President of Clinical Services and is responsible for nursing and many of the technical staff of the Institute. Ms. Sherrard holds two joint appointments with the University of Ottawa and is actively involved in the education of Masters students in Nursing and Health Administration. She is a member of the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. She has worked on a number of provincial committees associated with the care of cardiac patients. She also provides consulting services to other provinces in the area of cardiac health services. Her ongoing research interests are in health services related to cardiac care. Her current research includes studies on: cardiovascular manpower issues, using technology to enable care, and best practice guideline utilization.
Dr. Lloyd Duchesne
CardiologistUniversity of Ottawa Heart Institute Dr. Duchesne has been with the Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute since 1997, and his principle focus is clinical patient care and teaching at the University of Ottawa. He directs a team of medical students and residents involved in the care of patients on the wards and in the Coronary Care Unit of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He is a clinical investigator, involved with multiple international clinical trials studying novel advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease. He is Chair of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Committee, and Chair of the Division of Cardiology Morbidity and Mortality Committee.
Sharon Ann Kearns
Project Manager, Champlain Get with the Guidelines – ACS InitiativeManager Quality and Performance Management University of Ottawa Heart Institute Ms. Sharon Ann Kearns holds a BScN from the University of Ottawa and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) designation from the Healthcare Quality Certification Board. This designation recognizes professional and academic achievement in the field of healthcare quality management. Ms. Kearns is an active member of the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.
Bonnie Bowes
Project Facilitator, Champlain Get with the Guidelines – ACS Initiative Bonnie Bowes is a graduate of the University of Sydney with a Bachelor’s of Nursing and is currently working on her Master’s of Health Sciences Nursing from Charles Sturt University. Ms. Bowes is a certified Professional in Cardiovascular Nursing (CCNC) and is a member of the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. Ms. Bowes has a nursing history in critical care, emergency care and cardiovascular nursing. She has been a member of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) team since 2001. She has worked in multiple roles including staff RN in CSICU, Clinical Nurse Educator in CCU, Clinical Nurse Educator in CSICU, and Project Facilitator. Her current role is Project Facilitator for the implementation of the ‘Get With the Guidelines’ initiative in the Champlain LHIN as well as working on patient safety initiatives at the UOHI.
Lorraine Montoya
Project Facilitator, Champlain Get with the Guidelines Lorraine obtained her BSN (Nursing) at the University of Victoria (British Columbia) and her Masters in Adult Education (MAdEd) from St Francis Xavier University (Nova Scotia). Lorraine has held a variety clinical, education, research, and administrative positions both in the acute care sector as well as within the academic community. She has worked in several locations throughout Canada as well as abroad where she was part of a World Health Organization (WHO) team focused on developing innovative curricula for nursing programs in a developing country. Currently, her main interests are in knowledge translation, adult learning, and effective management of chronic disease. Lorraine is a member of the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. As Regional Program Educator, Lorraine is facilitating implementation of the ‘Get With the Guidelines’ initiative as well as working on other corporate education initiatives at the UOHI.
